Family Feasts & Valentine's Day!

We are a family that loves to celebrate and feast (which is just a fancy word for eat!)

So anytime we get to celebrate we take full advantage.

Valentine’s day is a wonderful day to celebrate our family and the love we have for one another. We are a family because we began with love. That is the foundation of who we are and what we are becoming, and my prayer for us this year is found in Philippians 1:9-11 , “And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and my be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteous that comes through Jesus Christ — to the glory and praise of God.”

So this year I have planned our family Valentine’s day full of feasting and fun and I am excited to share it with you!

5 ways to Celebrate Valentine’s Day with your family

  1. Plan a yummy dinner

Here’s the thing…keep life simple. Make an easy meal everyone will love. Avoid the food wars at all cost! Don’t make broccoli or Brussel sprouts, make potatoes or corn. Do a make your own pizza! Do something easy. Make simple sides and a yummy dessert. I have included a few easy family recipes that all my kids enjoy: 30 minute Chicken Piccata, roasted potatoes and for dessert, yummy filled crepes which you can Download here. I plan to make a small bar with yummy fillings the kids can try to create their own. if your kids are older, turn on some fun music and get them in the kitchen to help and enjoy each other.

  2. Decorate!

I don’t decorate a whole bunch for valentine’s day, I keep it pretty simple with a few table runners, a wreath at the door and that is about it actually. But for dinner I always make the table look pretty. I add a few candles, maybe buy some pink carnations and this year I plan to print and cut these cute conversation hearts. My plan is to have each family member write a word or two on the hearts that describes or encourages each other and share them at dinner because feasting should also be a time of encouragement and a celebration of one another. You can print the Conversation hearts here.

  3. Have fun and meaningful conversations

Intentional conversations are important to our family and during meal times, especially at feasts. Our normal dinners include use time to talk about our highs and lows, would you rather questions, but during feast I always like to incorporate God’s word and we find a scripture to meditate on or be reminded of and then we ask questions that fall in line with the verse. In the Convo Card download, I have included a verse and 4 questions (plus a challenge) to ask such as, “How do we show love to one another?” and, “What is one thing you love about our family?” Download 4 questions, a scripture verse and challenge here.

  4. Do something fun!

Dance, play games, go for a walk and just simply spend time together. Feasting is celebration! Keep the party going as long as you can!

  5. Pray and thank God for each other

The beautiful thing about celebrating is that not only can we feast, break bread and celebrate each other and the blessings we have been given, but we can also celebrate the one who has given us so many blessings. Thank God for all that He has done and the love he has given us daily.

“Dear Children, let us not love with words or speech, but with actions and in truth!” 1 John 3:18

Happy Valentine’s Day!
